Being a second time-mom, I know that the most challenging task during the first few weeks is definitely breastfeeding. Although I was able to breastfeed Olivia, my firstborn, for 3 years, I had to mix-feed as I struggled with low milk supply. I clearly remember the first few weeks of cracked, bleeding and sore nipples then so I was prepared for the worst this time around. As some might say, breastfeeding is the most amazing bond a mother can have with her child.

I agree to that however it wasn’t the case for me.

Latching did not happen naturally for me with my girls.

I love cradling my baby in my arms and feeling the closeness of our skin but at the same time, each of their impatient cries gives me anxiety attacks. Their cries overwhelm me making me feel frustrated with myself. I tried for 1 whole week but still it didn’t seem to work for us. I didn’t want to starve my milk monsters thus I entrusted my faith to the breast pump.

Even though I couldn’t have any of my girls latched on to me, I chose not to give up.

30 mins of pump every 3 hours even throughout the night, that was how hard I tried to extract as much milk as I can for my girls. Time goes by so fast I don’t even get to do much while I’m at it. The exhaustion and the thought of my precious time wasted expressing milk instead of keeping my girls accompany.

If it wasn’t for the chubby little cheeks and fat tummy I really don’t think I can do this.

Nobody told me about bleeding, blisters and cracks. I experienced them all while I was a FTM and all I could do was just cry in silent while I watch those bottles of pink milk with traces of blood in them.

Thank goodness this time round with Charlotte isn’t as traumatising. I had my @silverette.asia shields since Day One and it helped me so much with the healing of my sore nipples. Not a single bleeding incident and the healing from scab due to the excessive stretching was fast.

Recently I was also introduced to Be Free from @babyexpress.sg , I no longer feel trapped. It was hands free, tubes free! I can complete so so much while i’m pumping! I can clean the house, I can cook, I can even bring Sophie to school while i’m pumping. Plus the suction works as good as my hospital grade pump...
